Spring in uptown Charlotte was such a sweet backdrop for Rachel and Nate’s engagement photos at Romare Bearden Park. We had just missed the cherry blossoms, but the city was still very much in bloom—spring flowers popping up everywhere and that fresh, hopeful feeling that comes with this time of year.
This session was especially meaningful to photograph because I’ve known Nate since growing up. Getting to step into this season with him and Rachel, and later photograph their wedding as well, felt like such an honor. From the beginning, the evening felt less like a photoshoot and more like hanging out with friends—easy conversation, lots of laughter, and moments that unfolded naturally.
Romare Bearden Park gave us a simple, clean setting that let Rachel and Nate be the focus. The location didn’t steal the spotlight—it just quietly supported the story they were telling together, which is always my favorite kind of session. As a Durham wedding photographer, I love when engagement sessions feel relaxed and personal, with space for couples to just be themselves.
We wrapped up the night by grabbing pizza together at Mellow Mushroom across the street, which honestly felt like the perfect ending. Sitting down, sharing a meal, and getting to hear more about their lives is something we truly enjoy. Those moments of connection are such a big part of why we love working with couples the way we do.
Tips for an Engagement Photos at Romare Bearden Park
If you’re considering Romare Bearden Park for your engagement session, a little planning helps. I recommend choosing a weeknight to avoid crowds and giving yourself extra time for parking, since you’ll likely use a nearby parking deck. An earlier shoot time is also ideal here—the surrounding buildings soften the light earlier in the evening, creating a more relaxed and flattering look.
